A ground floor and roof level refurbishment project for a young family who wanted to renovate their house into their ideal family home. The renovations are proposed at ground level, where the kitchen and living space is entirely reworked to produce a larger kitchen, dining space and large glazed openings to bring in light and air. At first floor level a new bathroom and bedroom space is introduced and at second and third floor a whole new roofspace is created. This provides space valuable extra space for a work-from-home study and family bathroom. In the core of the house, a reconfigured staircase creates an atrium that runs from through three levels of the house, with a vertical drying space for clothes. The envelope is sensitive to the original form of the Victorian terrace and the roof forms running parallel to the existing building.
